⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Rayfa Padma Khura'in
Age: 14
Canon: Ace Attorney
Canon Point: Post-Spirit of Justice

Background: Link

Personality:
Rayfa presents herself as cold and distant, and emanates the typical royal aura. As an important figure in the Kingdom of Khura'in, she has to make sure her people respect her, and that she cannot be easily defied. It is why despite how young she is, she normally speaks very formally, seldomly using contractions in her words and using as many big words as she can.

A big part of her upbringing was developing hatred towards defense attorneys—people who were seen as criminals for falsifying evidence or lying in court just to get the verdict they desire. It is why the court hearings in Khura'in normally only had a prosecutor, and a spirit medium who could communicate with the spirit of the victim and show the court the victim's last moments. All her life, Rayfa performed the Dance of Devotion in court and served as the only spirit medium capable of doing so. She's had been given a lot of responsibilities even at a young age, which is why, apart from her bloodline, is the reason why she can be so sure of herself. She is confident in her skills and how perfectly she does them that she believes she is infallible.

And because she is royalty and she does so much for her country, she's grown to be rather spoiled. She often relies on her personal aide, Nayna, to do most mundane things for her. Not to mention, whenever she needs or wants something, all she has to do is call Nayna and she immediately gives her what it is she wants.

She may be an arrogant and spoiled child, but she isn't selfish. She thinks more about her country and the people who serve her than herself. She worries for everybody's well-being and dislikes the idea of poverty as everybody should be able to have at least three meals a day. Nobody should be suffering, or be out in the streets. It is only when defense attorneys or criminals are being talked about that she sounds less than reasonable. Her judgement becomes clouded and all she wants for these kinds of people is death.

Even though Rayfa may act mature and collected majority of the time, she isn't bereft of childlike and childish qualities. She can be petty and bratty, even having temper tantrums when cross. Her childishness is often displayed on Phoenix Wright, as he was the one who found contradictions in her Insight (her interpretation of what is seen in the victim's last moments). As she was proven wrong numerous times by the defense attorney, she (while being dragged out of the courtroom) kept announcing bad things she wished would happen to him. Most include getting hurt, and/or dying a painful death. She's also more than once joked about how a bailiff in court could shoot Phoenix as a "souvenir".

For such a small girl, she has a lot of pride. She hates being wrong or not getting her way, but she eventually learns that even she can make mistakes. She's rather emotional and is quick to react negatively to her mistakes being pointed out, but will later on accept that it was her fault. She knows when to take responsibility for her actions, and doesn't give up easily. Her Insight may not be spot on at first, but she takes it as a sign that she should improve.

Rayfa can be both hot and cold. She acts tough at all times as she bears a lot of responsibilities, but deep down, she does have warmth in her. She claims to not watch shows for children, but later on reveals that she is a big fan. When Phoenix presents the Plumed Punisher strap to her, she yells at him to get it away from her, but then when Phoenix obliges, she gets mad at him for hiding it. Even when she finds out that Nahyuta is her big brother, she finds it very difficult to call him as such, opting to call the prosecutor "Braid Head" instead.

She may have been daddy's (in this case, adoptive daddy's) little girl growing up, but she was not lacking in love for her (adoptive) mother, as well. While she loved both Inga and Ga'ran completely, it doesn't mean that she was shown any love back. Ga'ran mocked her for her failures and imperfections in public, and it can be inferred that Rayfa was treated just as harshly privately, too. Despite the humiliation she's gone through, she still tries to put on a brave face. It's only when she can no longer take the abuse that she actually does speak up to Ga'ran and tells her that she's done. Rayfa can get emotional at times and she may show occasional weaknesses, but she can more than stand up for herself.

Throughout the story of Spirit of Justice, Rayfa slowly begins to question if her way of thinking is the right one. As she's been pompous and full of herself this whole time, being hit with the sad fact that her interpretations are not as perfect as she thought has done a lot to her self-esteem. She does become a tad bit nicer to defense attorneys, but the biggest change in her is accepting that there is more to what she can contribute to court. She now knows that defense attorneys, prosecutors, and herself should be working together to uncover the truth.

Abilities: Rayfa is a spirit medium, a priestess, and is a member of royalty in Khura'in. As such, she has high spiritual powers and is the only person in Khura'in permitted to perform the Divination Seance.

The Divination Seance is when the royal priestess communicates with the soul of the dead so that they may witness the dead's last moments in the Pool of Souls. All she needs is the dead person's full and real name, and she must know how they look like.

As a member of royalty, she is capable of channeling spirits. However, as she's only fourteen and hasn't undergone training for this yet, her spiritual powers are limited to the Divination Seance.

Alignment: Elios. Unknown to Rayfa until very recently in Spirit of Justice, her real mother and brother have been working under Ga'ran's orders in order to protect her. She's also very cared for by her adoptive father (and uncle), Inga. She grew up being loved a lot, and at the same time, grew up resenting defense attorneys and people related to them. (She's also a big tsundere.)
